If you have not already done so, please submit your 2026 dues payment and 2026 Meeting Pre-Registration now.

The Deadline for submission of abstracts was 31 October 2025.

Payment of membership dues and meeting registration is required if you expect your paper to be included on the Program.

Notifications of acceptance on the Program and scheduling details will be sent to participants in mid-January 2026.

A Preliminary List of presenters whose papers have been accepted on the Program and a partial list sectional meeting chairs is accessible via this link and on the ASPA website. More sectional meeting chairs will be appointed soon. The Preliminary list will be updated as the schedule changes and additional Chairs are appointed.

This list informs you that your paper has been accepted and when it has been scheduled. A preliminary draft of the Program will be available on the ASPA website soon. Some changes, additions, corrections, and other adjustments in the Program will inevitably be made.

The Program and Abstracts will be distributed online shortly before the meeting and in print at the meeting.

American Society for Premodern Asia

The AOS Name-Change Committee completed its work and recommended a new name for the American Oriental Society. The Board of Directors endorsed the proposed new name, and the membership in attendance at the 235^th Annual Meeting, which convened April 9-12, 2025, in Boston, voted in favor of the Board’s endorsement. The new name is:

American Society for Premodern Asia (ASPA: JASPA for the Journal. The Journal will assume its new name with volume 126:1 (Jan-Dec 2026).

The Committee noted that there is no getting around the fact that many of the committee, and many members, are very attached to the name we know so well, but the offensiveness of the term “oriental” is in the end decisive – the argument to keep the name for traditional, historical reasons is the weaker argument and one that encumbers and harms the Society, in the present and most definitely in the future.
